Cultural Background - Native Americans

1. Beadwork is well known for it's beauty.
2. A key concept we'll be using is symmetry.
3. This design type is based on four-fold symmetry.
4. They have a lot of the same shapes in them.
5. Embroidery, beadwork, hide drum, and rug.
6. Reflection symmetry is when the same shape is reflected vertically and horizontally.
7. An example of four base counting that is found in Native American culture is the teepee.
8. The Navajo sand painting is used in healing ceremonies. The painter brushes the painting away along with the disease.
9. The parka's decorations are the same on both sides so when you fold it they will match up.
10. Four fold symmetry in #5 is shown in the beadloom. If you fold it horizontally, it matches up. If you fold it vertically it still matches up.
11. Native American beadwork was created in 1794.
12.  These designs help us with math and science and they show traditional influences.
